Where does CoinGate get its exchange rates?

We calculate our exchange rates by combining real-time data from multiple cryptocurrency exchanges around the world.

We use proprietary algorithms to gather these live quotes, adjust them for liquidity, operational and regulatory risk, and then present the rate locked in for the payment window.

The rate is clearly shown on the checkout page when you make a payment.

What this means for you

  • The rate you see is current and valid for the 20-minute window of the checkout page.

  • Because the rate is sourced from multiple exchanges and risk-adjusted, you may see slight differences compared with one single exchange rate you checked on your own.

  • The transparency means you always know the rate you are paying at the time of the transaction—the rate displayed is the one that applies.

Key note for merchants and shoppers

To avoid confusion:

  • Shoppers see a locked rate when they open the checkout page.

  • If you’re comparing rates externally, keep in mind our aggregated/adjusted model may differ from one exchange’s spot rate.
