Billing lets you request a crypto payment from a specific person or company without integrating anything into a website. You build an invoice in your dashboard, and the customer pays it through a link.
When Billing is the right tool
Checkout integration suits an online shop, where many customers pay for what they put in a basket. Billing suits the opposite situation: a small number of known customers, each paying an agreed amount.
Typical uses are invoicing a client for a project, charging a monthly retainer or subscription, collecting a deposit before starting work, and one-off requests where setting up an integration would make no sense.
No developer is needed. If you can fill in a form, you can send an invoice.
What an invoice contains
- A contact — a person (first name, last name, email) or a business (company name, email). Contacts are saved, so the next invoice to the same customer is quicker.
- An amount — either a flat total, or line items built from your saved products with quantities and prices.
- A receive currency — what the payment settles into on your account. If you choose Euro, the crypto the customer pays is converted and credited to you in EUR.
- An expiry — how long the payment link stays valid.
There is also an underpaid cover setting, a buffer of up to 10% that lets an invoice count as paid when a customer sends slightly too little because of price movement or a slow confirmation. It is worth using when billing in more volatile assets, and worth leaving at zero when the invoice has to be paid in full.
How the customer pays
You can have CoinGate email the invoice, or take the payment link and send it yourself through whatever channel you already use with that customer. Your customer does not need a CoinGate account — they open the link and pay from their own wallet.
Keeping track
Every invoice you have sent is listed under Billing → Invoice history, with its status: Pending, Paid, Expired, Scheduled or Canceled. From there you can open an invoice, resend it, cancel it, or use a previous one as a template for a new one.
Where to start
The invoice builder is under Billing → Create invoice in the sidebar, or from the top menu on the Home page. For a step-by-step walkthrough, see How to create and send a crypto invoice instantly via CoinGate.
