Which crypto wallet do you recommend?

There is no single best wallet — it depends on how you plan to use it. A few things to decide first.

Hot wallet or cold storage?

A hot wallet is connected to the internet: convenient, quick to pay from, and the right choice for amounts you use regularly. Cold storage is offline, usually a hardware device, and suits larger amounts you intend to hold rather than spend.

Many people use both — a hot wallet for day-to-day payments, cold storage for savings.

Which networks do you need?

Not every wallet supports every network. Before choosing, check that it handles the coins and networks you actually use. This matters when paying a checkout: sending on a network your wallet defaults to, rather than the one the page asks for, is the single most common payment mistake we see.

Lightning Network

If you plan to make small Bitcoin payments, a wallet with Lightning support will be faster and cheaper than an on-chain transaction.

Our suggestions

We keep a list of wallets we recommend for different cryptocurrencies on our wallets page, and our blog explains the difference between hot and cold storage in more detail.

Whichever you choose, keep your recovery phrase somewhere safe and offline. Nobody from CoinGate will ever ask you for it.
